Design excellence is at the core of The Forks's vision and mandate. Railside builds on this with an intent to elevate design standards for architecture and public spaces. The aim is to ensure that buildings and public spaces are designed and built to be both beautiful and constructed to the highest quality, ensuring sustainable, enduring and noteworthy architecture.

The vision for Railside has been defined and reinforced through an extensive and ongoing consultation process with citizens and key stakeholders, including FRC’s Federal, Provincial and City shareholders. Informed through the consultation process, six guiding principles will direct design and development decisions as Railside advances.

Railside at The Forks is based on a 20-year vision to redevelop the Railside lands into a comprehensively planned, mixed-use neighbourhood that provides a diversity of housing options, demonstrates design innovation and excellence, enhances connectivity between The Forks and the rest of the City, and adheres to The Forks’ ambitious sustainable development goals. Community Process

Phase 1 RFQ Now Closed

Railside represents an unprecedented development opportunity at The Forks. Through the Phase 1 Request for Qualifications (RFQ), FRC is looking for creative and experienced partners to design and develop the first phase of Railside. The intent of the RFQ process is to identify qualified development teams that not only have a solid track record, but that share its vision for design excellence, sustainability and innovation.

FRC was incorporated in 1987 by the three levels of government to acquire the former CN east rail yards. Over the last 30 years, FRC has transformed these lands into Winnipeg’s primary destination, attracting more than four million visitors each year.
